AMRIT FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENCE "A Tribute to Heroes of Indian Freedom Struggle"

                       India's Forgotten...? Freedom Fighter...?

                                                        Pandit Parmanand.....?

22 years of black water punishment for freedom

Pandit Parmanand ji, the brave son of Bundelkhand, who served 22 years of black water for the freedom fighting in the Cellular Jail of Andaman and Nicobar, dedicated his whole life for the freedom fighting. This great revolutionary had knowledge of 22 languages, due to which he got the title of Pandit. When Bal, Pal and Lal were playing for the independence of the country, three revolutionaries Pandit Parmanand, Dewan Shatrughan Singh and Swami Brahmanand were roaring in the soil of Bundelkhand. People used to get goosebumps after listening to Panditji's stunning speeches. The brave sons of Bundelkhand made sacrifices for freedom. The name of Pandit Parmanand ji will always be remembered as a patriotism, political firmness and an independent thinker. You bravely faced difficult and distressing situations and never got discouraged. You have written the history of India in Hindi. In writing history, you were not in favor of giving primacy to the lives of kings, wars and great men. You were clearly of the opinion that the feelings, desires, aspirations, culture and civilization of the caste should also be given importance in history.

Pandit Parmanand the great revolutionary was born on 6 June 1892 in a Kayastha family of Sikrauda village of Sarila tehsil. Mother Sagunabai gave birth to this brave son from her womb. Father Gayaprasad Khare and grandfather Manrakhan Khare were dedicated to the country. Parmanand's grandfather Manrakhan Khare was imprisoned for 20 years for looting the Charkhari princely state in the 1857 Mutiny. Manrakhan gave up his life due to persecution and tyranny in the princely state. Which had an effect on Pandit Parmanand. From then on, the seeds of national ideas started sprouting in his heart. Parmanand was the youngest of his six siblings. In his childhood, the shadow of his parents arose. Leaving the village school, Pt. Parmanand started studying in Allahabad with his elder brother Gopalji. Parmanand obtained his master's degree from Panjab University and was appointed a teacher at Dayanand Anglo College, Lahore.

Partition of India

Pandit Parmanand visited several British colonies in South America and met Lala Hardayal again in San Francisco. He was also among the founders of the Ghadar Party. He returned to India with the aim of revolutionizing India ('Gadar Conspiracy'). He claimed that five thousand revolutionaries (Gadri) had come to India with him. He was also one of the leaders of the Ghadar Revolution. On 21 February 1915, the Ghadar Party planned a simultaneous rebellion against the British government in India, but this plan failed due to infighting. The case went on in the name of Lahore Conspiracy Case. On September 13, 1915, along with many revolutionary heroes of the country, Pt. Parmanand was sentenced to death. Later his sentence was converted into black water. Panditji was kept in the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar. He was suffering inhuman torture in the jail, where his wife Mrs. Bhagyasudhi was taking care of her family with full self-respect and courage, despite the lack of wealth. On the basis of the fragments written in the jail related to Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, he later composed a book called "The shelter of my end times". Bhaiji went on a hunger strike for two months against the rigorous imprisonment of political prisoners. Pandit Parmanand ji was freed from Kalapani jail on 20 April 1920. One gets goosebumps after reading his description in the book "Meri Aapbiti" written by Pandit Parmanand ji. A thrilling description of these tortures has also been given in the book "Revolutionary Bhai Paramanand" written by Prof. Dharamveer. After being freed from jail, Pandit Parmanand ji again made Lahore his work area. He used to stress the importance of Hindu organization from place to place. Pandit Parmanand ji published the "Hindu" letter and exposed the conspiracies to break the country. Pandit Parmanand ji had predicted in 1930 itself that the ultimate aim of Muslim leaders was to divide the motherland and create Pakistan. Pandit Parmanand ji had also warned that do not trust the Congress leaders, they will someday betray the country and partition it.

When the prediction of Pandit Parmanand ji proved to be true and the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan was announced, such a pain arose in the heart of Pandit Parmanand ji that he could not recover from it and on 8th December 1947 he left this world.

In 1979, the Government of India issued a postage stamp in memory of Pandit Parmanand ji.
