Mr Golden's assassination attempt
Awadh Bihari was a
nationalist and freedom fighter. He was actively involved in revolutionary
activities against the British rule. Awadh Bihari took the front in Uttar
Pradesh and Punjab against the British rule. He was associated with Ras Behari
Bose. And he had planned to throw a bomb on Lord Hardinge, the Viceroy of
India. Who served as the Viceroy and Governor-General of India from 1910 to
1916. Awadh Bihari was arrested in February 1914 and sentenced to death. Awadh
Bihari was hanged on 1 May 1915 in Ambala Central Jail.
Introduction
Awadh Bihari was born on 14 November 1889 in Delhi. From his
father Govind Lal was a respected teacher. The famous revolutionary Master
Amichand of Delhi was his mentor. Awadh Biharis were greatly influenced by the
spirit of Master Amir Chand to free Mother India from the clutches of British
rule. Avadh Bihari had secured marks in B.Tech examination from Teacher
Training College, Lahore. Won gold medal with highest marks.
Bomb blast disguised as Muslim women in burqa
On 23 December 1912, when the ceremonial procession passed
through the Chandni Chowk suburb of Delhi, a homemade bomb was hurled at the
Viceroy's Howrah. Awadh Bihari, Basant Kumar Vishwas, Balmukund all three
revolutionaries dressed as Muslim palaces in burqas. On the terrace of Punjab
National Bank in Chandni Chowk, other Muslim women sat down together. All three
had garlands of flowers in their hands. The bomb was hidden under a flower
garland in Basant Kumar's hand. The Viceroy, along with Lady Hardinge, escaped
his injuries as soon as the bomb was detonated, but his mahout was killed in
the attack. Taking advantage of the whirlwind of smoke rising, all the
revolutionaries came to Ajmer Kunal Lahore after the Delhi bombings to escape.
Mr Golden's assassination attempt
Mr. Golden, the British officer based in Lahore, Bengal, was a
complete tyrant. Awadh Bihari made an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate him
on 17 May 1913. A subsequent investigation into the attempted murder led to a
Delhi conspiracy trial. He was arrested on 19 February 1914. Although Awadh
Bihari was convicted of throwing and killing the bomb, along with Amir Chand
and Basant Kumar Vishwas for his role in the conspiracy, the real identity of
the actual person who threw the bomb is not known till date. All of them have
been put to death. Sentenced and hanged on May 8, 1915 in Ambala Central Jail.
Many salutes to such brave freedom fighter who died for the freedom of the country!
